Revitalized Medvedev Wins Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a challenging season, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since March of the previous year.

Success also means he has won twenty-one victories at 21 distinct events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the highest level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour championship, took control to force a decider.

The opponent saved 4 initial chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
